Politics? Why, why, why, would anyone ever look forward to politics??
Well… allow us to explain:
In 2010 a General Election is inevitable, if you’re 18+ you will have the opportunity to get out there and vote for who you want to lead Great Britain for the next four years. Now this in itself is pretty standard, it’s the way that ourcountry has worked for a long time, however the 2010 election promises to not only be very different to its predecessors but also an extremely interesting experience for all young people in the UK.
Politicians are going to be scrapping for your attention, your opinion and most importantly your vote. This means you will be seeing Lib Dem, Conservative and Labour material everywhere. No space is going to go unnoticed and they will use all avenues to get into your life and get you to the polling station. The 2010 election is going to be the first time that UK politicians have had the chance to use Facebook/Twitter/MySpace to generate votes so… prepare your social space to be well and truly invaded by politicians hoping to engage you in their policies.
There is also going to be a bit of added razzmatazz during the campaign trail. For the first time in the history of UK politics there are going to be live televised debates between the leaders of the three big parties. Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron will be taking to the stage and battling it out for your votes. It should be captivating viewing especially when you consider that John F. Kennedy was the rank outsider in the 1960 US election until the televised debate. His opposite number Richard Nixon appeared nervous and sweaty on TV, so the public didn’t vote for him!
All in all it looks like there is a new breed of politics that will involve everyone and get the nation re-interested in something that is fundamental to our society. Who wins? You Decide…
