The phrase “3D is coming to your living room” was being bandied around freely by the likes of Panasonic, LG, Samsung and Sony at the International Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month. 3DTV has been on the technology radar for years now but despite the hype it is set to be more of an extension to High Definition TV rather than the full on hologram in your living room effect that we were all hoping for.
Another semi-annoying thing about 3DTV is that it will not be automatically 3D. You will still have to use special glasses to be able to utilize the 3D functionality. The glasses won’t be the traditional cardboard specs you are used to using though; 3DTV has updated the glasses to something that wouldn’t look out of place in a Ray Ban collection.
The good thing about 3DTV though, and why we are looking forward to it so much, is that it is a real step forward in technology and it is going to impact everything. Sky are planning to show the World Cup in 3D this summer and DVDs will also be available in 3D, so when Avatar hits the shelf you can get the whole experience from the comfort of your own home.
Whether 3DTV makes a big impact this year or not remains to be seen but it is undoubtedly a massive evolutionary step in the world of entertainment. Check out the videos below to see how 3DTV is going to work!
