Your Guide to Birmingham Wedding Venues

Choosing a wedding venue is one of the most important decisions you’ll make as part of planning your wedding ceremony and reception, but it can feel overwhelming at times. But never fear, HeadBox is here to guide you through the process of hiring a wedding venue that suits your budget, size and style needs.

We’ll take away the stress of searching for the perfect place to get married so you can concentrate on the finer details of the ceremony and the party, of course, so you can start your marriage the right way.

Choose a date for your wedding

First things first, you need to decide on a date for your wedding. If you’ve got your heart set on one specific date then HeadBox takes the guesswork out of the process - all you have to do is enquire and we’ll only suggest venues that are available for your date. If you’re happy to be a bit more flexible then you’ll receive more options to fit your requirements.

Top tip: If you’re having a civil ceremony you’ll also need to make sure a registrar from the local council is available on your date too. They have limited availability and get booked up fast, so it’s important to book early to make sure you secure your ideal date and time.

Choose a style

Before you start looking for a venue, it’s a good idea to have an idea of the overall style of your wedding. Think about colour schemes and decorations, how big you want the wedding to be or simply an idea of the type of venue you’d like. Are you looking for something small and intimate or did you have a big 500 guest extravaganza in mind? Are you a traditional bride or groom or would you prefer a more unique and unusual alternative for your wedding day?

How to narrow down your wedding venue options

Once you’ve got an idea of the style of your wedding, it’ll be easier to narrow down what you’re looking for in a venue. At this point you can start to consider some more logistical details, for example, did you imagine having your ceremony indoors or outdoors? Will your ceremony be in the same venue as your reception?

There are so many options when it comes to wedding venues in Birmingham that no matter what you’re looking for, there is sure to be a space that suits. If you have faith in the great British weather then there are plenty of outdoor options, from rooftops to gardens or perhaps a marquee (just to be on the safe side).

If the traditional fairytale wedding is your dream, then country houses are a great option, Highbury Hall and Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel are beautiful choices for a wedding. However, if you’re looking for something a little more rustic then a barn or even a warehouse might be just what you’re searching for - we’re big fans of The Compound.

FAQs

How should I decide on a budget for my wedding venue in Birmingham?

There’s no easy answer to working out a budget for your wedding venue, and not all venues are priced the same way. Some offer all-inclusive packages which cover venue hire, food and drink whilst others have a venue hire fee which your catering would be added on top. Some venues offer a minimum spend option, this means there is no hire fee but you have a set amount you’ll need to spend on food and drink. You could also opt for a dry hire venue which will allow you to self-cater your reception, this can be a more affordable option if you are looking to keep costs low.

When deciding on your budget, a good place to start is with the guest list. Work out how many people you’d like to celebrate with you and then a sensible amount you could spend on each. You can tweak this number until you’ve found a total you feel you can afford. This will help you decide which venue hire option will suit you best. Don’t forget to account for extras like flowers, cake, stationery, ceremony fees, and of course a contingency. Finding your suppliers in the local Birmingham area will also help to keep costs down.

What’s the best location for my wedding in Birmingham?

The city centre provides a wide selection of venues for weddings, from historic buildings to modern rooftop bars. Digbeth is a creative, bohemian district that is perfect if you’re looking for an alternative wedding venue - the iconic Custard Factory is located here. You could also head a bit further south to Moseley where you’ll find Highbury Hall.

What are the best wedding venues in Central Birmingham?

Central Birmingham is full of stunning wedding venues. Some of the most popular are The Old Library, the Botanical Gardens, Fazeley Studios and even Birmingham University.

What are the best venues outside of Birmingham city centre?

There are plenty of wedding venues just a short hop from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Highbury Hall and Shustoke Farm Barns are highly recommended.

Are there good transport links in Birmingham for wedding guests?

Birmingham has brilliant transport links, making it easily accessible from across the UK and abroad for all your wedding guests. Birmingham Airport is international and located just 7 miles from the city centre. Birmingham New Street Station is a railway hub for the whole of the UK with fast trains to London and all major UK cities.
