Joseph Paxton, head gardener at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, designed the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851 which was forged on the design of the St Pancras cast-iron train shed. Paxton was later knighted by Queen Victoria that year.

In the 1870s, when the Midland Grand Hotel opened, railway stations were managed by station masters. The station master would enjoy significant standing in local society. When St Pancras Station was built, the first station master insisted that his office be based not in the terminus building but in the quieter, more prestigious surroundings of the hotel

St Pancras Renaissance Hotel 

Top hotels today are expected to make available the latest in communication technology to their guests – and it was no different when the Midland Grand was open. Alexander Graham Bell’s historic first transmission of clear speech by telephone was made in 1876, just three years after the hotel opened. The Exchange is where the hotel’s telephone auto exchange was installed as soon as the technology gained widespread use.

Today, that tradition continues as the room, in it's new guise, host occasions from corporate lunch for 30 or a boardroom for 28. 

The Billiard room, was dedicated to the hugely popular game among the upper class in the Victorian era, now, the room is perfect as a pre-function venue.

Occupying the former cobbled driveway where Hansom cabs once deposited their well-heeled passengers, Hansom Hall combines Victorian splendour with contemporary style, making every occasion an unforgettable experience. 

A stunning space which can comfortably seat up to 375 in a theatre set-up with front projection, 220 in a classroom set-up and 240 guests in a cabaret set-up.
For a grand banquet, it can accommodate up to 280 guests or a reception for 575. 


Hansom Hall

Enter the Gallery and you touch history. From this majestic, sweeping, curved room beneath chandeliers and an ornate ceiling, Lord, Ladies and Gentlemen once watched Victorian London pass by. Today, it's magnificence is restored for the staging of banquets for up to 120 guests and meetings for up to 96 guests cabaret or 170 theatre layout front projection. 

The Ladies Smoking room, the first of it's kind in the Victorian era - creates an equally spectacular pre-function venue.

Rowland Mason Ordish was one of the unsung heroes of St Pancras Station’s original construction, and of Victorian architecture. He became a master engineer of iron-framed structures and was vital to the detailed design of the iconic St Pancras train shed with William Barlow.

In it's former life as the staff's quarters, it has witnessed it's share of  memorable encounters. Today, that tradition continues, as the room, in it's new guise, host occasions from trainings for 24 to banqueting for 30. 

Simultaneously grand and intimate, it boasts original wooden beams, with menus that can be crafted around individual needs with the same care and artistry as the surroundings.
