The 5 best venues in South London

There’s something about South, South London, that is.

Maybe it’s the moving car park orchestras (the orchestras, not the cars). The buzzy night-time markets. The impromptu book swaps and £1 book stalls. Or it could be the free antiques. The rooftop film clubs that are the city’s worst-kept secrets. Local favourites that aren’t going anywhere (not even with the latest Pret, Starbucks and Caffè Nero). And buildings, lots of buildings.

If there’s a place that doesn’t do things by the book, you’ll find it south of the river.

Clapham, London

Expect floral walls, checkered floors, and a bar lit with fluorescent lights, and because no stone is left unturned, the cocktails are as “Blame Gloria-fied” as the rest of the venue. Take a shot of skittle-infused vodka or sip on the sugary Starburst Boogie to see for yourself.

With happy hours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and full venue hire for up to 220 guests, it looks like it’s Gloria’s world, and we’re all just living in it.

For the uninitiated, Big Easy bring Southern food straight from the US to London. Their Chelsea branch is the first, has proved to be popular, as more locations have been popping up over the years.

How to hire a venue in South London

We know that finding a venue the old-fashioned way (where you trawl the internet, contact 10 venues or set your heart on one, only to find that they're out of your price range and not even available on your dates) is a pain, and there are a few pitfalls between you and booking your perfect venue. Getting the venue-finding process down to a professional art is what we’ve made our mission ever since we took on the events industry. We often get asked the same questions, so here's what we recommend to quickly and easily hire a space in South London.

Frequently asked questions

For venues in South London, you're spoilt for choice. Here are a few extra special ones that we vouch for:

Big Easy, Kings Road – For Southern food done right, head to the Chelsea branch of Big Easy.

Blame Gloria, Clapham – You'll find maximalist interiors, music and seriously sugary cocktails at Clapham's Blame Gloria.

There really is no one answer to this question: so many variables come into play when understanding the cost of exclusive hire of a venue. How many guests are you planning for? Is the venue for the day, an afternoon, or the night? The good news is that you can find a venue for pretty much any budget (okay, almost any budget). Instead of letting the venue dictate the price, our advice is to be proactive and set a budget that you feel comfortable with – this way the right venues can reach out to you through HeadBox.

There are lots of ways to book a South London venue. You can do the old-fashioned thing and pick up the phone, or email the venue directly. Unfortunately, lots of venues are busy and may not get back to you in time. That's where we come in. Give us your enquiry and we'll reach out to the best venues in South London and let you enjoy your free time. Easy.
