NYC's best new openings | Summer 2025
New York is the city that keeps on moving. With a record number of businesses and restaurants opening year after year, it’s no wonder it feels impossible to keep tabs. Lucky for you, we’ve done the hard work.
From a Japanese city pop-inspired cocktail bar to a sky-high events venue, here are our picks for the best new places to eat, drink, stay, and host in New York City this summer.
Hotels
Now Now Hotel
NoHo, NYC
Designed for solo travellers, Now Now is a boutique hotel full of 180 well designed, single occupancy micro-rooms. Quirky and chic, this is the NYC response to the modern, space age-y pods of Tokyo capsule hotels. Somewhere between a hostel and a boutique hotel, Now Now offers “shared byt private” bathrooms and communal spaces that don’t sacrifice funky design and sophistication. Sure, the rooms are tiny – a mere 32-m2 – but how often will you really be in them in NYC?

Hyatt Regency Times Square
Midtown, NYC
Hyatt has taken over the 46-story Times Square tower once occupied by the Crowne Plaza, and will reopen as a Hyatt Regency hotel this summer. With 795 guest rooms and 159 enclosed parking spaces, this hotel is ideal for anyone looking for a stay in the busy heart of the city.

Bars
56709
Long Island City, NYC
If you’ve never had your ears graced by the delight of Japanese city pop music, you’re missing out. Luckily, 56709 aims to change that. This listening and cocktail bar names each of their drinks after a Japanese pop icon, and features funky ingredients like green apple, tomato, sunflower seeds, and chestnut. The food menu features Taiwanese influence, with cold seafood appetizers, fried oysters, and ochazuke. Inside the intimate space, you’ll find a neon pink and blue low-lit vibe, with plenty of vinyl records. There’s availability for private events, too.

Lei
Chinatown, NYC
King and Jupiter co-owner Annie Shi dreamt of a place to complement the many dinner spots surrounding Chinatown – and Lei was born. The intimate 24-seat wine bar aims to be walk in-friendly (a rarity for a Lower Manhattan wine bar these days) and is a labour of love for its culture, the history of the neighborhood, and family (Lei is named after Shi’s late sister, Hannah). On the wine list, there are plenty of well-recognized regions like Burgundy and Champagne, but you’ll also find some newcomers from Asian regions which are arriving stateside for the first time, like peach cider and a black muscat with notes of jasmine tea. A curated menu of 15 Chinese dishes accompanies the wine – cat’s ear noodle, steamed cockles, and sesame shao bing are standouts.
Now Open
Leonessa
Battery Park, NYC
It’s not a NYC summer without a rooftop bar, and Leonessa is the newest on the scene. An ode to Italian aperitivo culture, the citrus trees, coastal colors and fountain detailing will make you forget you’re not on the Amalfi Coast – until you see the Statue of Liberty and the Hudson on the skyline. The beverage program is created in partnership with Ariel Arce of Tokyo Record Bar and Roscioli, and offers approachable yet luxurious cocktails, including spritz, bitters, gimlets, and martinis. Of course, there’s also plenty of Italian wine, and complimentary bar snacks.

Babysips
Lower East Side, NYC
Self-described as “a working class wine bar”, Babysips is making natural wine approachable. The menu offers tags like “bubbles”, “some skin”, and “a little more red” to help reduce any pretension. Bar snacks are fun and elevated, like asparagus with pistachio, date, and manchego or chips with paprika and creme fraiche. The prices are pretty good for LES, but the whole “working class” vibe comes from the community. Already being praised for the friendliness of staff, one guest came in with a vinyl purchased from a nearby store and the staff offered to play it for them. In a city so saturated, it’s rare to find somewhere you’ll really feel like a local.

The Dynamo Room
Midtown, NYC
Sunday Hospitality (Sunday in Brooklyn, Rule of Thirds, Café Chelsea) has a new kid on the block. The Dynamo Room is a classic New York steakhouse in the heart of Midtown, right in Penn Plaza. The sophisticated interior is inspired by local artists (and even showcases pieces from Karma gallery), oyster cellars, and nearby Penn station. As you dine, you’ll hear classic rock playing beneath the chatter of Midtown tourists and local businessmen.
The menu is an ode to Old New York, with a sizable raw bar and plenty of prime cuts, as well as caviar and lobster ravioli. The drinks menu has a whole section dedicated to globally-inspired martinis, next to other classic and house cocktails.
The space includes a patio, an oyster bar, and a main dining room alongside a 20-person private dining area.
Opening May 31
Mama Mezze
Midtown, NYC
La Pecora Bianca has a special place in NYC’s pasta world – it’s reliable, good for groups, and casual but still has that out for dinner vibe. If you’re tired of Italian (how?) the team behind LPB have opened Mamma Mezze on Broadway, just a block away from their NoMad location. The large space is ideal for groups, and the food is made to be shared – think spreads like hummus and whipped feta, pickled small plates and meat skewers, and large meat dishes like schnitzel and branzino. Plus, there’s a giant citrus tree grounding the whole room. What more could you ask for?

Marlow East
Upper East Side, NYC
Beloved Columbia neighbor Marlow Bistro has a sister in town. Marlow East is a nature-inspired restaurant showcasing Southern cuisine right by Central Park. Virginia-native chef Braxton Decker is bringing beloved classics uptown: Virginia oysters, buttermilk fried chicken (psst – it’s off menu), croquettes, and devilled eggs are some highlights. A drink menu of USA wines and cocktails with honey butter whiskey compliment the dishes.
Now Open
Dell’anima
West Village, NYC
If you lived in NYC in the 2010s, you know Dell’anima, the Italian fine-dining trattoria that made a splash on the restaurant scene with its then-novel ricotta toast, negroni spagliato, and chefs-counter seating. The original spot shuttered in 2018 before a seven-year stint uptown, but a new location is popping up this summer on Cornelia Street, back to its West Village roots. Specializing in soulful Italian cooking with a changing menu, (and the extensive wine by-the-glass list it was so beloved for), the food is seasonal and simple. The revival is led by the original staff, and the new space offers a refreshed interior with a more intimate setting. There’s also a sectioned-off space in the back of the dining room for private groups up to 12.

Teruko
Chelsea, NYC
The Chelsea Hotel has a new resident. Named after the Japanese artist Teruko Yokoi, who lived and created within the Chelsea Hotel’s walls, this intimate restaurant honors traditional Japanese cuisine with offerings like smoked and seared kampachi with scallion and jalapeño, whole dover sole karaage with ponzo, and a full menu of traditional edomae style sushi. The interior is anchored by Hotel Okura’s famed Orchid Bar, which was salvaged from its original site and brought to New York. Full and partial buyouts are available.
