The Old Bank Vault is a new gallery space and concept store on Hackney Road fusing art, design and community. Working with local and independent artists, gallery owner Sim Takhar, aims to create a unique experience for its clients, members and locals.
The gallery is a result of many years of strong family ties to Hackney Road, and now combines both Sim and her parents’ creative vision with striking limited-edition pieces from a mix of local artists and designers. “I spend a lot of time going to art fairs and opening nights to find people we could collaborate or work with,” explains Sim. “Our ethos is to work with independents and support emerging as well as established artists.”

Sim recalls growing up experiencing the drastic change of the East End, becoming more attached to the idea of making something of her parents’ old premises.
“As much as I am all for the gentrification of London making it a better place than it already is, there are people who have lived in and around Hackney Road for years. I very much want them to feel a part of what we are trying to achieve here.”
