The hottest new openings coming to NYC in 2026
2025 brought over a thousand new restaurants, bars, and venues to New York City. It was the year of hybrid restaurants (fusion menus, wine bars that are also gourmet grocery stores/pottery studios/florists/bistros), sweet treats (the return of the fro-yo run, late night Swedish candy stores), and intimate restaurants with less seats than a subway car. What will 2026 hold in Mamdani's New York? It's hard to tell, but we've got a few sneak peeks that'll give you an idea. Here are some NYC openings to keep on your radar in 2026.
Restaurants

Ugly Baby
Williamsburg
Breaking the hearts of spice junkies everywhere, Thai institution Ugly Baby announced the closure of its Carroll Gardens location in December 2024. Not even a year later, the mouth-numbing menu is set to return at a new 2,500 sq. ft. location in Williamsburg. Known for its authentic, bold flavors, it was a pioneer for bringing Thai restaurants out of Elmhurst, Queens and into the bustling Manhattan restaurant scene. Their new location will be larger than the last, with a private party area, a liquor license, and the same traditional dishes and extreme heat that has secured them into the unofficial r/FoodNYC hall of fame. Though, after his "long and restful" break, chef Sirichai Sreparplarn undoubtedly has some new ideas. We'll just have to wait and see what they are.
Opening February 2026

Strakers
SoHo
The first of a couple new transatlantic openings in 2026, viral TikTok chef (cue eye roll) and controversial restauranteur Thomas Straker is opening an outpost of his beloved and bougie Notting Hill restaurant Straker's. After a series of successful pop-ups in 2024 and 2025, the team will take over the site that once was Keith McNally's Lucky Strike. The flagship in London is beloved by influencers and critics alike, serving a menu of "British by way of Italy" cuisine. While the changing menu will inevitably change overseas, recent dishes include girolles flatbread, seabass tartare, venison with lingonberries, and burnt honey ice cream.
Opening Early 2026

Uovo
NoMad
It's easy to wave off another Italian restaurant opening in New York, but Uovo is something else. Having gone from one to five locations in Los Angeles alone, the owners of Uovo don't mess around: one R&D trip to Northern Italy had them tasting 77 pastas in three days (okay, dream job). When they found out that they couldn't ship eggs directly from Europe to make pasta on-site, they knew American eggs wouldn't do. Instead, they built a kitchen in Bologna that makes fresh pasta daily and overnights it to their U.S. locations. Now, they're taking a shorter flight to let New Yorkers have a taste. The menu focuses on pasta, with little appetizers and no further main courses. The bolognese recipe dates back to the 1950s, and every order is made individually for ultimate precision. After all, if you're opening a restaurant in NYC in 2026, you've got to go big or go home.
Opening Spring 2026

Dishoom
Lower Manhattan
Another UK-born restaurant is making its way stateside, and this one is long-awaited. Dishoom is a non-negotiable on a trip to London – we can attest – and now you'll finally be able to get their iconic black daal and breakfast naan rolls in New York City. After a successful breakfast pop-up at Pastis in 2024, they've signed a permanent lease in Lower Manhattan. Modeled on the cafes from Persian immigrants in India in the 1960s, Dishoom was a hit among native Londoners and the Indian diaspora alike for its colorful, bold interiors and nostalgic comfort food dishes. The opening is one of many NYC outposts of London Indian restaurants, including the small-plates sharing restaurant Kricket and the upscale Gymkhana.

Bars

Flanker Sports Bar and Kitchen
Seaport
After successful locations in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Glendale, Arizona, Flanker is bringing their award-winning sports bar to New York. The 14,000 sq. ft. venue will open at Pier 17, with two floors, plenty of giant TV screens, and a waterfront view. The ground floor will "offer elevated, cocktail-focused sports, dining and tableside experiences," and feature state-of-the-art audiovisual production for unmatched game day viewing experiences. There will also be dedicated areas for private events such as corporate summer parties and wedding receptions. The Hidden Boot Saloon will be on the second floor, including three modern country bars, a mechanical bull, and line dancing events. It'll champion New York teams, but it will also be a place you can come to cheer on your hometown favorites from afar.
Opening Fall 2026

Bar Susanne
Williamsburg
Having already opened their all-day concept Cafe Susanne in Domino Park this past November, Bar Susanne will open as an expanded riverfront raw bar highlighting local purveyors. The space, designed by James Beard-nominated designer (and owner) Matthew Maddy, is airy and coastal, similar to his past projects Lillia and Public Records. He aims for both the cafe and bar to be "community gathering space[s] for artists, creatives and local residents alike." Not much is known about the menu, but we imagine it'll be similar (if not identical) to the existing Cafe Susanne beverage program: cocktails include Masala chai–driven Chai Bloom and a turmeric-forward Golden Hour, alongside low-ABV riffs on espresso martinis, spritzes, and highballs curated by mixologist Milos Zica (of Employees Only).

Hotels

Hotel Meta
Hudson Yards
No, the tech monolith is not opening a hotel – yet. So you can breathe a sigh of relief. Though, if they did, we imagine it'd be similar to this: a 51-story modern skyscraper in Hudson Yards. The Marriott Hotel is sure to be a go-to for business travellers, as it'll be situated directly across from the Jacob J. Javits Convention Center. The 379-room hotel will also house event spaces like banquet and conference rooms, a ballroom, and a multi-level restaurant and terrace.
Opening Early 2026

Kimpton Era Midtown
Rockefeller Center
The long-awaited central location of IHG's stylish Kimpton Hotel range is coming to the heart of Midtown. With 529 petite yet thoughtfully designed rooms, the space will offer a central location for corporate travellers to access Midtown with ease. The 33-story hotel will also feature four restaurants and bars led by Apicii, including a rooftop izakaya with 360-degree views of Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall. Specifics on meetings and events spaces are unclear, but the hotel's target audience being contemporary business travellers implies that there will, like other Kimpton hotels, include plenty of meeting rooms and conference spaces.

Canyon
Lower East SIde
Pitched as a purpose-built venue for video, sound, performance, and other "art that resists the quick glance", the non-profit institution Canyon will open in a vacant commercial space in the Lower East Side. Hosting 40,000 sq. ft. of galleries and event spaces, which includes a performance hall with capacity for 300 people and a 60-ft-tall central atrium, the goal for the space is to transform the modern museum experience into one geared towards younger audiences, who grew up on screens and are now seeking real-life community in New York.
