Our favourite 10 venues to host a party around East London

You probably have a good preconception of an East London party. Exposed brickwork. Overpriced cans of red-stripe clasped by lots of good looking people. The feeling that at some point, someone might stand up and do some spoken word poetry.

We're not going to try and pretend that doesn't happen in London's answer to Williamsburg, but there is some variety in the East London party scene.

We took a look at all the different kinds of spaces you can get your rocks off in, and made them into a very helpful list.

Check out our top picks below.

1. An East London party venue in the skies: Dalston Roofpark

East London

Sure, The City likes to show off its rooftop bars and skyscraper views, but really who cares about being able to see another glass and steel abomination that no one can afford to live in? Those in the know head out of Zone 1.

Dalston Roofpark is an example of a great rooftop bar that doesn't feel like it was made with Ayan Rand in mind. Located among the Victorian homes of Hackney, this is a great place to get you and a few friends together, invest in a bucket of beer and see the day fade beyond the horizon. This being East London, you can be sure to expect DJs creating a vibe in the bar most days, with seasonal events like World CupGames and Oktoberfest also appearing on the calendar.

There is also an indoor blank canvas space, Fitzroy House, that is available for private hire. This space has integrated audio and visual facilities – meaning any party can be given that extra flourish.

2. East London's all-in-one party venue: Queen of Hoxton

East London

An absolute East London party institution, Queen of Hoxton has played host to countless memorable (and forgotten) nights. Located a few minute's walk from the strip of Shoreditch high street, Queen of Hoxton benefits from being a huge townhouse with a basement club, ground floor bar and rooftop terrace. The interior is all empowering neon signs and discotheque flooring, whilst the roof changes theme with the season.

The sheer size of the place means that pretty much any party can be catered to, be it 30 people or 500.

Classic East London party criteria apply: regular DJs, a young crowd, and drinks that are made to be downed, not savoured.

It's not the most subtle of places, but that's the point.

3. A mezzanine level East London party venue: EartH Kitchen

East London

Located in the centre of a large performance venue, EartH ( Evolutionary Arts Hackney) Kitchen is a renovated bar, restaurant space and performance stage all rolled into one. The venue's past history reads like the agenda for a stag do: crazy golf bar, pool hall and arcade, and now, mercifully, a top-quality party venue in East London.

The space itself is large and well-lit, with windows looking out onto Stoke Newington Road below. The food is also of note: serving effectively as a community space, the kitchen invites local pop-up food stalls to serve well-regarded street food to partygoers.

Somewhat surprisingly, the space can fit up to 300 people, with various setups being available for a variety of all kinds of party events.

4. A beautiful blank canvas party venue in East London: Village Underground

East London

Under the same management as EartH, village underground compliments its East London cousin with something slightly more raw. The converted Victorian viaduct certainly creates a striking stir. Exposed brickwork, sloping ceilings and plenty of space collide in this venue.

It's a space that would be best suited to a well-attended East London party (the cavernous feel of Village Underground doesn't exactly lend itself to intimacy. 720 guests can be accommodated, and the metal rafterwork is perfect for light shows, projections and much more.

It's a blank canvas, with extra focus on the blank. Sometimes, that's exactly what a pretty venue should be.

25th floor Sky Terrace, The Stratford Hotel east london party venue

5. East London's olympic legacy party venue: The Stratford Hotel

East London

A hotel granting stunning views of the regenerated (for better or for worse) Olympic site of Stratford, this aptly names hotel certainly strikes an image.

Oak flooring comes together with bespoke furniture and floor to ceiling windows to create a party venues that feels part Blade Runner, part treehouse. It's certainly a one of a kind venue.

The 25th floor 'Sky Terrace' can be hired out for up to 60 guests. You will, of course, be able to make full use of The Stratford's excellent service and, if all that partying wears you out, you can just take a room at one of East London's best regarded hotels.

6. East London's new & independent party hotel: 100 Shoreditch

East London

Another East London hotel, this time in the heart of Shoreditch. 100 Shoreditch is a recent addition to the east London party scene, replacing the much-loved Ace Hotel. Fortunately, the legacy is not tarnished.

The focus here is their excellent rooftop bar, which grants unrivalled views over Shoreditch and further west. The cocktail menu is great, with their take on the Old Fashioned being a standout. The vibe seems to call to mind Palm Springs, with beach bum furniture, relaxed atmosphere and enough flora to make you forget about the rain that is most likely slashing the floor-to-ceiling windows. You're still in London, after-all.

The whole bar can be hired out, though expect to pay a premium. It's worth nit for the view though, not many East London party venues will be able to rival that.

7. An East London party space under a railway: Night Tales

East London

Hidden under the still-used overground track that dominates Hackney Central's Mare Street, Night Tales is an almost comically stereotypical 'East London' party spot.

It's misleadingly huge, with a generous outdoor area, multiple rooms and bars, and a good variety of private hire options. The interior mixes exposed brickwork and cavernous spaces with a tropical decor, weirdly it meshes well together.

This is one for massive corporate parties, and the real thrill is hearing the Stratford train thunder above you, sending a trickle of dust down as you party into the night.

8. An East London party venue that rewards cunning: Fox in a Box

East London

For those wanting an East London party venue that rewards cunning, this one might be for you.

For those not familiar with the now ubiquitous escape room, firstly – where have you been? Fox in a Box brings the concept to Dalston, giving you multiple scenarios in which to think your way out from. The themes range from Zodiac Killer and wartime bunker to a classic prison break scenario. It is organised fun fine tuned to the maximum. If that's your thing then Fox in A box is a great party shout. If not, just go to the pub.

Fox in a Box offer private hire for up to 150 people. Getting there is pretty easy, with Dalston Kingsland being a short walk away.

9. A historic East London party venue: Troxy

East London

A genuine East London party institution, Troxy has endeared itself to locals with years of incredible and historic performances occurring at the storied music venue.

The 1930s art deco interior has seen the likes of Nick Cave, Jesus and Mary Chain, and Flying Lotus. Basically your ex-boyfriend's Spotify wrapped in a venue.

Amazingly, you can actually hire out the Grand Hall space all to yourself. An impressive 2100 of your mates could have what would probably be the greatest night of your lives in this genuine piece of East London history. Just don't expect Nick Cave to play for you – you're not that special.
