1. A shag-carpet hideaway for a Lower East Side Christmas party: Ray's
Lower East Side
Tucked behind a private door on Rivington Street, Ray's brings a shot of downtown character to Christmas party planning instead of another beige function room. Take over the whole space for "Downstairs at Ray's" and you get a shag-carpet entrance, plaid-lined walls, a fireplace, and your own private bar — enough room for up to 125 guests standing or 60 seated. It's more of a well-loved den – a la That 70s Show – than your typical corporate party venue. For something more intimate, the main bar area holds 65 standing or 30 seated, set among a disco ball, pool table, and vintage lounge furnishings that give the place its dive-bar-meets-living-room feel.
