Positioned in the north-west corner of the iconic Somerset House courtyard, The Courtauld Terrace offers intimate outdoor entertaining for up to 60 guests. Pair a spring or summer reception with a private view of The Courtauld’s award-winning galleries, boasting one of the most impressive collections of Impressionist art in the world.  Guests can enjoy paintings by Van Gogh, Cèzanne, Manet and other famous names with an expert tour that unlocks fascinating stories, before enjoying a relaxed reception al fresco.  The Terrace leads on from the striking Courtauld vaults, with a permanent bar and décor that changes with the seasons and shows. It also offers a wet weather option if needed.

Striking, stylish yet relaxed and welcoming, Art Café is The Courtauld’s new restaurant and bar located on the ground floor. The warm vibrant interior has been inspired by the bohemian creativity of the Bloomsbury Group, and a colour palette favoured by the designs and creations of the Omega Workshop.

Art Café is a great option for a light breakfast and a private view of an exhibition before the Gallery opens to the public.

The elegantly restored Blavatnik Fine Rooms showcase some of the greatest and most-loved works from The Courtauld’s Collection from the Renaissance through to the 18th Century. 

Major highlights include Botticelli’s large-scale The Trinity With Saints, a room dedicated to works by Peter Paul Rubens, and a comprehensive collection of decorative arts including ornate ceramics.

Three of the most prominent artistic, scientific and historical societies had their meeting rooms in these spaces – the Royal Academy, Royal Society and Society of Antiquaries. The architect of Somerset House, William Chambers, was a founding member of the Royal Academy and made sure its rooms on this floor were sumptuously decorated with stunning ceilings, beautiful
fireplaces and ornate door handles.

A suite of six galleries spanning the entire second floor of the building makes it possible to host a standing reception for up to 200 guests, or an intimate seated dinner for up to 50 in the Rubens and Baroque Room.

The spectacularly restored LVMH Great Room is the home of masterpieces from The Courtauld’s world renowned Collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings.

Highlights include Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882), Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear (1889), and the most significant collection of works by Cèzanne in the UK.

The LVMH Great Room is London’s oldest purpose-built exhibition space and was the former home of the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. Previously subdivided, the newly renamed LVMH Great Room has been reinstated to its original breath-taking proportions and provides an unforgettable new space for events.

The LVMH Great Room is directly adjacent to our special exhibition space, the Denise Coates Exhibition Galleries, providing the perfect setting for a reception with private view of a major exhibition.
