Birmingham's best filming studios
Birmingham is no stranger to filming. The home of Peaky Blinders, Line of Duty and critic favourite Nativity 3, the midlands city has a filmic pedigree. This affinity with the camera stretches to its excellent array of film studios , too. The sheer number of old industrial buildings busying the redbrick city has led to a bewildering array of studios to choose from. Expect high ceilings, large windows that flood the room the light, and all the white screens you could imagine.
Here are some of our top picks of Birmingham's film studios to hire.

1. An industrial film studio with a modern twist: The Compound
Located on Water Street, this industrial film studio in Birmingham is very multi-functional. Originally a 10,000 sq. foot textile factory, it’s kept its industrial charm. Each room has plenty of natural light for all your filming needs. Moreover, every room is very versatile
From brick walls to wooden beams, there’s enough visual appeal here to set off any shoot. Our favourite part of this film studio is the striking gold island in the kitchen, creating a focal point in the modern, open planned space.
The Compound is available to hire every day and can hold up to 150 people standing — enough space for all your filming crew. Moreover, the venue also boasts bridges, balconies, mezzanine floors and a speakeasy bar.
2. A Birmingham film studio to hire for a vast space: Rainbow Venues, The Warehouse
Owned by the widely renowned Rainbow venues, The Warehouse is a great asset to Digbeth. Its Victorian brick walls, exposed ceilings and textured floor all contribute to its urban, industrial vibe.
The venue has a capacity of up to 1000 people and so is a great film studio in Birmingham if you’ve got a large cast and crew. Moreover, the Warehouse has plenty of natural light and breakout spaces.
If you’re looking for an after-work drink then you don’t have to look much further. A huge bar hugs one of the walls — a great way to relax after a long day of filming.
3. A multi-functional Birmingham studio suitable for all your filming needs: Love it! Studios
If you’re looking for a blank canvas to film in, Love It! Studios is a great option. Located in the Colmore Business District, and only a 5-minute walk from Birmingham New Street Station, it's easily accessible from across the city.
This Birmingham film studio is split over two floors. It’s completely up to you whether you hire the whole venue or an individual floor. If you choose the first option, you’ll be able to fit up to 40 people standing. The downstairs floor holds a maximum of 25 people, and the upstairs 30.
One of the great things about this venue is that it’s a dry hire — meaning you can go in any creative direction your heart desires.
4. An unusual yet beautiful Birmingham film studio: Ort Gallery
This Birmingham film studio is housed in a beautiful, former grade 2 listed building in Moseley Road, Balsall Heath. There’s room for up to 80 people standing, and 50 seated.
If you’re a fan of unique venues then this is probably your best bet. The Ort Gallery has white-washed walls and huge windows which provide plenty of natural light. The walls are decorated with numerous items ranging from paintings to t-shirts.
Onto another important subject … food. Although the catering is external, Ort Gallery can help you find the perfect company to keep your brain fuelled. The venue is also fully accessible for wheelchair users.
5. A Birmingham film studio to hire for its versatility: Centrala Space
Established in 2012, Centrala Space is an outspokenly ethical company. Promoting social integration, they are the only publicly funded gallery for Central and Eastern European art in the UK.
Now onto the film studios. This Birmingham venue has multiple rooms which you can hire. Their gallery space can fit up to 100 people standing. There is also a cafe area, perfect for getting some great filming shots (and tucking into their modern Eastern European cuisine). Another room is also available to hire which can fit up to 150 people standing. With a projector and a drop-down screen, this Fazeley Street venue should give you everything you need.
6. A Birmingham film studio to hire for photographers or film crews: CFC Studios
Thomas Street’s CFC Studios is ideal for professional photographers and film crews. Able to fit up to 100 people standing, and open from very early until late, this Birmingham film studio is ideal for long filming days.
Whilst you can hire the events space (1000 square feet of amazingness), the photography studio is tailored to more professional needs. Moreover, it's also available for either wet or dry hire.
Both options give you full access to a 19x13 infinity wall, plenty of natural light and kitchen facilities. If you opt for the wet hire, then extensive lighting equipment is included in your package. Sounds like a dream to us.
7. The most versatile film studio ever: One Zero One The Studio
This Digbeth studio is any professional’s dream. In just one room (which can hold up to 50 people standing) you have access to 4 different backgrounds. Now, you’re probably thinking, what are these? Well, we can shed some light on that. A white infinity area, with measurements of 6m x 5m x 5m is there. Moreover, it's pre-lit with DMX lighting.
If you’re after DMX controllable lighting, this Birmingham film studio still has you covered. A green screen is available — 10m x 6m x 5m.
We’re not done yet though. There’s also a spacious daylight area and a mysterious black wall.
8. A film studio in Birmingham to hire for cutting-edge material: Crane
For those looking to hire a film studio in Birmingham with an industrial vibe, Crane is calling your name. Its ceilings are super high and there are plenty of windows, allowing for lots of natural light. Moreover, the exposed iron beams and brickwork create an edgy industrial feel.
If you’ve got a big cast and crew, then this place is ideal — the Digbeth venue can hold a huge number: up to 2700 standing. Another amazing benefit which Crane offers is a fully licensed bar. A refreshing pint at the end of a long day of filming is ideal; you won’t even have to leave to go to the pub.
9. An inclusive and accessible film studio in Birmingham: Studio 197
A multi-award-winning company, Studio 197 are definitely people to trust in the business. Located on Adderley Road, their film studio is a great opportunity to follow in their photography footsteps.

How to hire a film studio in Birmingham
We know that finding a venue the old-fashioned way (where you trawl the internet, contact 10 venues or set your heart on one, only to find that they're out of your price range and not even available on your dates) is a pain, and there are a few pitfalls between you and booking your perfect film studio. Getting the venue finding process down to a professional art is what we’ve made our mission ever since we took on the events industry. We often get asked the same questions, so here's what we recommend to quickly and easily hire a space in Birmingham.
For film studios in Birmingham, you're spoilt for choice. Here are a few extra special ones that we vouch for:
The Warehouse, The Rainbow Venues – In need of something a little more lived in? This warehouse space is a great choice.
Gallery & Function Space, Ort Gallery – With its hardwood floors and blank white walls, this space is an excellent blank canvas.
There really is no one answer to this question: so many variables come into play when understanding the cost of exclusive hire of a film studio. How many guests are you planning for? Is the venue for the day, an afternoon, or the night? The good news is that you can find a venue for pretty much any budget (okay, almost any budget). Instead of letting the venue dictate the price, our advice is to be proactive and set a budget that you feel comfortable with – this way the right venues can reach out to you through HeadBox.
There are lots of ways to book a Birmingham film studio. You can do the old-fashioned thing and pick up the phone, or email the venue directly. Unfortunately, lots of venues are busy and may not get back to you in time. That's where we come in. Give us your enquiry and we'll reach out to the best film studios in Birmingham and let you enjoy your free time. Easy.
