1. A Brooklyn summer party venue that offers the best of both worlds: Midnights

Williamsburg, New York

Whether you want a lively, dance-filled night out or a relaxed afternoon sipping wine on the patio, Midnights has it all. The garden space is tucked away among ivy and bamboo, and has upholstered benches and string lights. Fans and heaters are present for ultimate comfort, and a pagoda area provides shade on those super-hot city days. The indoor space is stylish, with cobalt banquettes and leather barstools. Downstairs, there’s a Cali-themed discotheque called the Pasadena Room, where DJs spin on the weekends.

Both the garden space and indoor dining room can fit up to 45 guests each, or you can come with a smaller group and snag one of the communal tables on the patio. Cocktails range between a reasonable $12 and $14 each, with rotating options for spritzes, negronis, and margs. Order a few of their shot specials, or opt for wine and beer. There’s a tiny food menu, but outside food is allowed, so feel free to Uber Eats your favorite drunk meal after you’ve had a few drinks.

2. Host your summer party at this uber-casual Brooklyn favorite: Roberta’s Pizza

Bushwick, New York

Roberta’s exterior may seem a little dingy and unassuming at first glance, but it’s a well-loved summer hangout for Brooklynites. Originally a cinderblock warehouse, the venue has a bread bakery, beekeeper, rooftop garden, and even its own Internet radio station. The interiors are doused with flea market finds and Christmas lights, and the outdoor space is like an unruly backyard in the suburbs. It’s an ideal spot for getting a group together and enjoying extraordinary pizzas as soon as the temperature hits 70.

They’re known for their wood-fired pizza, and popular options are the Famous Original (a classic with chili, oregano, caciocavallo, and parm) and The Bee Sting, which is doused with chili and local honey. You can also get Italian sandwiches, smoked ribs, or burgers. Cocktails have beets, chili liqueur, persimmon, and rhubarb. Beer and an assortment of wines are also available.

Large reservations are available for special summer events, and the garden can be rented for up to 120 seated guests and 180 reception-style. A separate group dining menu includes three pizzas and starters, along with beer and wine. Roberta’s is kid-friendly, so the whole family can enjoy a classic pizza party.

3. An elegant, minimalist-chic rooftop lounge in Downtown Brooklyn: Kimoto

Dumbo, Brooklyn

If your summer party errs more on the side of business casual, Kimoto is the place to be. The interior is solely oak and greenery, making you feel like you’re in a Tokyo design studio and not a bar atop a hotel in Brooklyn.

The 5,000 sq. ft. event space can accommodate up to 250 guests indoor/outdoor, including the bar, main lounge, oak alcove, and stunning outdoor terrace which looks over the borough and beyond. Event specialists are available to consult, and catering services can be provided. Live DJs are spinning tunes every day, and if the interior is a little too minimalist for you, you can bring in light decorations to personalize your party.

The bar offers a curated selection of Japanese craft beers and whiskeys, as well as signature and frozen cocktails, which can be ordered in large format as well. Bites are Asian-inspired, like mushroom salad with yuzu oil and soy garlic chicken wings. Bigger dinner dishes include garlic fried rice and udon stir fry.

4. The closest you can get to Martha’s Vineyard in NYC: Rooftop Reds

Navy Yard, Brooklyn

Believe it or not, you can find a winery without leaving the five boroughs. Rooftop Reds resides on top of an industrial building in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard, and hosts 200+ red Bordeaux grapevines behind a backdrop of Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines. There’s no better place for the world’s first commercially viable rooftop winery.

Red, rosé, white, and orange wine is available on tap, by the glass, or in a carafe, as well as bottles and flights to try a little bit of everything. Beer, cider, and non-alcoholic beverages are also available. You can order light bites like charcuterie and kettle chips, or, if hosting a private party, order from local catering partners for Italian, Mexican, and Japanese cuisine.

The 15,000 sq. ft. rooftop has multiple options for private hire, including the semi-private shaded pergola (max. 40), skyline corner (max. 40), or the movie lawn, where you can host your own film screening for up to 40 guests. Private wine tastings are also available. You can buy out the full rooftop space for up to 100 standing guests.

5. A massive summer party venue to heal your inner child: BK Backyard

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

When we say massive, we mean it. This 24,000 sq. ft. outdoor sports bar claims to be “Brooklyn’s largest adult playground”, which, unless you like to have too much fun in Prospect Park, is probably accurate.

There’s a beach volleyball court, several stacked TVs for sports fans, DJs, and group games. You can rent the space for up to 400 guests (250 seated), or one of the smaller semi-private areas for more intimate parties. Heated cabanas are available with personal TVs, or rent out the 100 section for a more face-to-face event. The front patio area allows access to a satellite bar with 6 local beers on draft. The venue is designed with communal picnic tables, turf-like grass, and umbrellas to keep cool.

Lots of beers, high balls, and large-format cocktails can be purchased at the bar. You can also order backyard buckets with 6 or 24 cans of beer. It’s the perfect place to have a little bit of fun in the sun, and let yourself go just a little.
