1. Micromixology and superb flavour combinations at Silverleaf

Liverpool Street, London

Silverleaf is the kind of swanky cocktail bar you feel is going to be all style and no substance but that couldn't be further from the truth. Located in the luxurious Pan Pacific Hotel only moments from Liverpool Street Station, this is a place for cocktail aficionados.

Hypermodern and sophisticated with interiors by the renowned Tom Dixon, Silverleaf is concerned with the art and science of mixology and offers masterclasses, tastings, and exclusive menus.

At this Liverpool Street cocktail bar all the cocktails are £16 and offer unique, innovative flavour combinations such as pineapple and miso, raspberry and vetiver, lime and rosewood, and verbena and olive oil. It's not experimentation for experimentation's sake, it's award-winning flavour and a sensory experience – big words, we know, but it is an experience if you're into your spirits and unique flavours. Try a Fig & Meadowsweet cocktail and find out for yourself.

2. Potions and concoctions at The Alchemist Bevis Marks

Liverpool Street, London

This Liverpool Street branch of popular cocktail bars, known here as The Alchemist Bevis Marks, is about equidistant to Aldgate and Liverpool Street stations – a five-minute walk either way. Bevis Marks is a short street in Aldgate that was home to Sampson Brass in Dickens' 1841 novel, The Old Curiosity Shop and makes for an ideal location for purveyors of fine curious cocktails.

The Alchemist cocktail bar and restaurant are spacious, dimly lit by moody naked lightbulbs, and decorated in curious artwork all to create that signature Alchemist ambiance. The cocktail menu reads like an adjective-heavy 19th-century novel with classifications like Chemistry & Theatre and Light & Dreamy, and all presented most dramatically. Whilst we prefer our cocktails stiff and without fanfare, there are no charlatans here, just signature cocktails and theatrical presentations.

With a capacity of 80, the Garden Terrace is a top private hire destination in the warmer months, and the restaurant and bar interior can also be hired with a total capacity of 350.

3. Live music, DJ sets, and a year-round coutyards: Old Bengal Bar

Liverpool Street, London

Located in a Grade II-listed building originally owned by the East India Company, the Old Bengal Bar is just a couple of minutes' walk from Liverpool Street Station and Spitalfields. A super stylish and modern space is a converted warehouse, it has a long feature mirrored bar and two outdoor courtyards great in the warmer months, but sheltered and heated in winter.

What The Old Bengal Bar lacks in not being an intimate cocktail bar it more than makes up for with ample space that's ideal for private parties, DJ sets, live music, and signature cocktails as well as an international selection of spirits, wines, and aperitifs that would live up to the East India Company renown.

10. There's usually one of these around: Be At One

Just around Liverpool Street and Old Spitalfields Market, Be At One, like all their branches, has nailed the party atmosphere and we'd be remiss not to mention it on our list of Liverpool Street cocktail bars as it definitely serves a time and function.

Open seven days a week from 12 p.m., this cocktail bar is a great place for big crowds (just don't think about how you'll have to shepherd everybody to the train station before the last train).

With a long, rectangular bar covering half of the room, sofa benches, and round tables beside the walls, Be At One Spitalfields is wildly popular with punters visiting London due to its proximity to the train station, and office workers who've already made the rounds in several Liverpool Street bars.
