The best bars in Fitzrovia

Quaint pastel houses, cobbled pavements, the faint smell of overpriced coffee and pastries in the morning. Mmhm, that’s Fitzrovia. Competing with the likes of Marylebone and Soho, this area has been holding its own for a pretty long time.

While it’s known as the home to writers like Virginia Woolf and George Bernard Shaw, Fitzrovia is a hotspot for some great bars. From the cosy and the comfortable to the ultra-stylised, and whether you’re looking for a first date spot or somewhere for drinks with the girls, there’s a bar in Fitzrovia for everyone. Walk with us and we’ll show you a few.

Get started

1. Relax in this Fitzrovia bar: Riding House Fitzrovia

Fitzrovia, London

One of the first things you’ll notice about Riding House in Fitzrovia is just how cosy it feels. Walk in and breathe a sigh of relief. “Finally, a bar where I can drink and relax in”, you say. Our thoughts exactly.

With a banquet-style and circular seating, a muted colour scheme that’ll make Architectural Digest proud and enough plants to rival your favourite plantfluencer, this Fitzrovia bar is the stuff of dreams (and magazine spreads).

Take your pick of any of their drinks. Their pun-ny Snow Comparison (vodka, apple, blueberry, lemon and rhubarb bitters) is a good place to start.

2. A Fitzrovia bar that’s equal parts style and substance: 28-50 Oxford Circus

Fitzrovia, London

Plush lime green chairs you just sink into. Pastel pink stools and a hanging collection of wine glasses just above the bar. Nice.

28-50 Oxford Circus (which ironically isn’t on Oxford Street, but on Great Portland Street) is exactly what you’d expect from a bar in Fitzrovia. Tasteful elegance that isn’t too try hard.

The self-described “Wine Workshop & Kitchen” is home to a bevy of wines. Snack on smoked almonds, with a glass of red or, if you don’t fancy wine, then try one of their signature drinks.

If you fancy something a bit more intimate, this bar is available for private hire – so you can drink, dine and gossip your way.

3. A bar in Fitzrovia that isn’t really a bar: The Albany

Fitzrovia, London

Okay, okay, so this isn’t technically a bar but it’s a spot that we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mention. From the well-worn wood floors and furniture, to the lilac walls and pillars, you can probably guess that this is the place to go for drinks and good vibes (and not stylish interiors).

Saying that, The Albany is a local favourite and for good reason. With more beers, spirits, wines and cocktails than you can count, this is one place for drinks and catching up. Prosecco or Martini anyone?

Take a seat, sit back and relax, you’ll be here a while.

4. Visit this Fitzrovia bar for some of the best mezcal in town: Wahaca Charlotte Street and Mezcaleria Bar

Fitzrovia, London

Dark green walls. Comfy brown seats. A gold bar you can’t miss. Nestled on Charlotte Street, you’ll find Wahaca and on the top floor, Mezcaleria Bar. This bar claims to serve some of the best mezcal in town. You can be the judge of that.

On the mezcal front, they’ve got Quiquiriqui and Del Maguey and for tequila of the blanco, reposado, and añejo variety.

For more mezcal mania, this venue can be hired for 10 people and fits up to 150 people.

5. Have a drink at this 2-4-1 Fitzrovia bar: Black Horse

Fitzrovia, London

This bar is a little bit of Fitzrovia history here. Opening its doors in 1809, The Black Horse is a pub on one floor and a bar on another. Come on in and make your way upstairs to find the bar.

Warm, low lighting, cosy red sofas, and a bar upstairs: The Black Horse takes the basics of the pub and bar and excels at them. With drinks you can’t help but take a second look at (Love Bite, we’re looking at you), we can only expect that you’d have as much fun looking through the drinks menus as you will taking a sip of them.

Now, how about an espresso martini to get back you on the horse?

How to hire a bar in Fitzrovia

We know that finding a venue the old-fashioned way (where you trawl the internet, contact 10 venues or set your heart on one, only to find that they're out of your price range and not even available on your dates) is a pain, and there are a few pitfalls between you and booking your perfect bar. Getting the venue-finding process down to a professional art is what we’ve made our mission ever since we took on the events industry. We often get asked the same questions, so here's what we recommend to quickly and easily hire a space in Fitzrovia.

Frequently asked questions

For bars in Fitzrovia, you're spoilt for choice. Here are a few extra special ones that we vouch for:

Riding House Fitzrovia – A popular Fitzrovia bar, and for good reason. Sit back, relax and try one of their custom cocktails.

28-50 Oxford Circus – The self-described ""wine workshop and kitchen"" is a great place for a glass of red.

There really is no one answer to this question: so many variables come into play when understanding the cost of exclusive hire of a bar or a private space in a bar. How many guests are you planning for? Is the venue for the day, an afternoon, or the night? The good news is that you can find a venue for pretty much any budget (okay, almost any budget). Instead of letting the venue dictate the price, our advice is to be proactive and set a budget that you feel comfortable with – this way the right venues can reach out to you through HeadBox.

There are lots of ways to book a Fitzrovia bar. You can do the old-fashioned thing and pick up the phone, or email the venue directly. Unfortunately, lots of venues are busy and may not get back to you in time. That's where we come in. Give us your enquiry and we'll reach out to the best bars in Fitzrovia and let you enjoy your free time. Easy.
