The 4 best sports bars in Shoreditch

So you may think that 'sports bars' are just another poor attempt at Americans emulating the pub. Sure, they tend to smack of guys in backward hats drinking bud light and shoving each other on the back. But wait, hold your judgement for a moment, please.

Shoreditch actually does have a few quality sports bars that won't leave you pining for oak furniture and sticky carpets. There are sports bars that actually let you play sports while you watch the game and sports bars that bring things back to the important stuff: the sport. Believe us, Shoreditch provides the lot. What's more, you can hire a lot of them out for your own private event.

Here are a few of our favourite sports bars in Shoreditch.

1. A Shoreditch sports bar you can bowl at: All Star Lanes Brick Lane

Brick Lane, London

Situated just to the east of Shoreditch High Street, this Brick Lane sports bar is one of four iterations of All Star Lanes across London.

Whilst most famous for their excellent bowling alleys and karaoke booths, All-Star Lanes also play a lot of live sports. You can also book the whole thing out for up to 500 lucky guests.

2. Play foosball whilst watching football in Shoreditch: Bar Kick

Shoreditch, London

Whilst not having the most imaginative name of all Shoreditch sports bars, Bar Kick wins for the amount of fun to be had there.

Like All Star Lanes above, Bar Kick have landed upon the genius combination of playing sport whilst watching sport. This time it's football table. The Shoreditch High Street multi-level sports bar has plenty of tables to keep you occupied, and you can also eat and drink from their menu. Expect sports bar classics like loaded burgers, craft beer, and some classic American sandwiches.

If you're looking for private hire, the basement area is a great option. Entirely private for your event, the area comes with its own bar, foosball tables and beer pong, alongside 4K screens for live sport.

3. A Shoreditch sports bar with a truly excellent naming convention: Matchbox

Shoreditch, London

Another Shoreditch High Street spot, Matchbox combines what it disconcertingly calls 'feminine decor with sports passions'. Retrograde descriptions of interiors aside, this Shoreditch sports bar cannot be said to underdeliver on the sports front.

2 floors of screens and cheap drinks prove a good combination for watching people kick a ball as you slowly descend into a drunken haze. That, really, is it. And what else would you want from a sports bar? Masculine decor?

Private hire is available, with the whole sports bar being available for 300 people. American-style food platters can also be arranged, for eating we assume.

4. A Shoreditch sports bar that doubles as a club: Cornershop bar

Shoreditch, London

Located at the corner of Old Street and Shoreditch High Street, the fittingly named Cornershop bar boasts 8 flat-screen HD TV to watch all manner of physical activity (see: sports) on. You'll find 3 of the 5 TVs on the ground floor, whilst two more are in the basement.

After the final whistle has blown, Cornershop bar ushers in the late-night revellers of Shoreditch with its drinks menu, featuring everything you'd expect alongside tiered drinks packages for those who don't fancy queueing at the bar.

The Cornershop can be hired for private events, with two rooms to choose from.
