2. From East to East, this Shoreditch cocktail bar is a must-visit: Apothecary East

Shoreditch, London

Tucked away on Shoreditch’s Charlotte Road are the restaurant and bar Apothecary East. Since 2021, the izakaya-inspired venue has served up Asian-fusion dishes and drinks. Think kimchi fried rice, pork belly and the popular miso glazed aubergine.

As for cocktails, sip on a selection of expertly-done floral, fruity and sweet drinks. Happy hour comes around at 5 pm - 7 pm every weekday along with £7 cocktails. Might we suggest the crowd-favourite Zen Garden (that’s gin mixed with a green tea and lime cordial and salt minerals), to start?

Setting the tone for the evening, DJs play live sets on Fridays and Saturdays so expect your cocktails with a mix of disco, soul, house and jazz.

3. For a cocktail and a late-night boogie: 25 Paul Street

Shoreditch, London

Nestled in Shoreditch, this five-storey townhouse offers multiple 70s retro-style spaces to celebrate music, art and drinks.

25 Paul Street is an immersive bar that turns into a buzzing party venue. Open until 3 am daily, this spot is popular with those looking to let their hair down.

Head to the quirky Cocktail Lounge for a disco-themed tipple with weekday happy hour offering 50% off. Enjoy drinks such as New York Sours and Strawberry Daiquiris for a taste of the 70s while boogies to DJs spinning timeless classics. This spot is also available for private hire for up to 120 guests.

When the energy is right, The Basement transforms into a disco, with its light-up ceiling and art-filled lightboxes bringing the vibes into the early hours. Hire the Basement for up to 120 people including a private bar, DJ equipment and some very Instagrammable toilets. And of course, the cocktails are included.

Want bigger? For a giant bash, hire the whole venue for up to 210 people and dance the night away. So whether you want to celebrate a birthday, brand launch or bride-to-be, this spot has it all.

4. A cool cocktail bar in Shoreditch: Mama Shelter

Shoreditch, London

Good times call for a great cocktail. Luckily, Mama Shelter has plenty of those.

Inside the Hackney Road hotel, you’ll find two bar spaces. The first, in true Shoreditch fashion, is a mix of decorative art-lined walls, maximalist lamps and light fixtures and at the centre of it all, the bar.

Classic and signature cocktails make their appearance, with options like The Peach Comber (scotch with peach liquor, honey, ginger, lime leaves and raw bee pollen) and Purple P. Martini (vodka, lavender, lemon peel and butterfly pea flowers) brightening up the bar.

For alfresco drinks, head to the Garden Bar. The hotel’s leafy escape is ideal for parties, private dining or a relaxing drink. The space is available for private hire for events with up to 70 guests.

5. A top Shoreditch cocktail bar: The Rooftop Bar & Terrace, One Hundred Shoreditch

Shoreditch, London

While we can’t bring California weather to London, One Hundred Shoreditch can offer the next best thing. Inspired by the sunny and idyllic Palm Springs, the hotel’s rooftop bar and terrace space give visitors a side of city views with their cocktails.

With a pastel pink-tiled bar, cacti lining the windows and a front-row seat to the best sunsets, it’s certainly a dreamy space for drinks.

Speaking of drinks, get acquainted with picks like their Spicy Margarita, Californian Coffee (mezcal, spiced coffee amaro and white chocolate foam), or their classic Shoreditch Sunset (vodka, vermouth, ginger syrup, orange juice, lemon juice and bitters).

6. Try a masterfully mixed cocktail at this Shoreditch bar: Seed Library

Shoreditch, London

Inside One Hundred Shoreditch sits Seed Library, the laid-back brainchild of bar owner and bartender Mr Lyan. Self-described as a Shoreditch cocktail bar that focuses on “stripped back analogue forms”, it’s an equal mix of substance and Shoreditch cool.

As expected, really good cocktails are the order of the evening (and night). Seed Library seems to favour the fruity and botanical variety. Standouts include False Fruit Mix (vodka, rosehip, nettle, woodruff and tonic) and Chive Daiquiri (rum, chive, coconut milk and lime).

To accompany your cocktail, live sets from East London’s Love Vinyl set the tone on the weekends.

Clearly, Found is a bar that’s inspired many a great night and conversation, and what better than a cocktail (or two), to go with that?

Settle down for the night with the bar’s small and select menu, consisting of cocktails (of course), wine, beer and a trio of bar snacks. Standouts include Frothy Lady (gin, peach, elderflower, egg white, lemon, gomme) and Found Cake (amaretto, triple sec, lemon, egg, gomme).

Be welcomed by warm lighting, comfy stools, and tables and booths to boot.

For a spot of “mixed drinks and mischief”, Happiness Forgets offers a selection of expertly crafted cocktails. Take your pick, though if you’re in need of a suggestion, the classic Tokyo Collins (dry gin, yuzu sake, lemon, grapefruit juice) is a good shout.

You can find them below level at 8-9 Hoxton Square where happiness and a good night out await.

9. A former suit storeroom turned Shoreditch cocktail bar: Discount Suit Company

Shoreditch, London

You’re forgiven for not knowing that this is a cocktail bar. We admit it's closer to Spitalfields but close enough to the border of Shoreditch that it's staying on our list. On the corner of Wentworth Street, you’ll find two things, one, a men’s suit store and two, Discount Suit Company, the hidden cocktail bar.

Housed in a former suit storeroom, Discount Suit Company offers tailor-made creations, of the cocktail variety.

On your way down (not up, as the sign might have you believe), you’ll be met with exposed brick walls, well-loved leather seats and lighting to set the tone for the evening.

From the experimental Cool Jerk (brandy, yoghurt soju, lavender and soda) to the tropical Solero (rum, coconut, mango, citrus and whipped horchata), there are plenty of cocktails to choose from.

For now though, find your way to the black entrance door. No suits necessary.

As fate would have it, you’ll find Ever After above Happiness Forgets. Think of Ever After as the somewhat chirpier sibling bar to Happiness Forgets’ cool, basement vibe. With hanging plants, wood interiors and a breezy outdoor space, it’s an ideal spot for light lunches and alfresco drinks.

You’ll find this bar on Hoxton Square.

Shoreditch, London

Music, good food and great cocktails come together at Old Street Records. With live music every night, this bar is for the ones who can’t choose between their martinis and musical choices.

Between two floors, say hello to hot pizzas and house cocktails, like Sour Records (a blend of whiskey, pistachio syrup, lemon juice and egg white) while the sounds of R&B, jazz, pop, rock and neo-soul set the tone for the rest of the evening.

How to hire a cocktail bar in Shoreditch

We know that finding a venue the old-fashioned way (where you trawl the internet, contact 10 venues or set your heart on one, only to find that they're out of your price range and not even available on your dates) is a pain, and there are a few pitfalls between you and booking your perfect cocktail bar. Getting the venue-finding process down to a professional art is what we’ve made our mission ever since we took on the events industry. We often get asked the same questions, so here's what we recommend to quickly and easily hire a space in Shoreditch.

Step 1: Determine your budget Before you start looking for a cocktail bar, it's important to determine your budget. This will help you narrow down your options and prevent you from overspending. Some cocktail bars in Shoreditch are more expensive than others, so make sure you know how much you're willing to spend.

Step 2: Consider the size of your group The size of your group will also play a significant role in choosing the right cocktail bar. Some cocktail bars are better suited for small groups, while others can accommodate larger parties. Make sure you know how many people will be attending your event before you start looking for a cocktail bar.

Step 3: Look for a cocktail bar with a good selection of cocktails One of the main reasons for visiting a cocktail bar is, of course, to enjoy a variety of custom and signature cocktails. Look for a cocktail bar in Shoreditch that has a good selection of drinks, from classic favourites to innovative new creations. This will give you and your guests the opportunity to try different cocktails and discover new favourites.

Step 4: Consider the ambience The ambience of a cocktail bar is also important. Look for a cocktail bar in Shoreditch that's suited to your style – whether that's stylish and sophisticated, cosy or rustic with comfortable seating and good lighting. The right ambience will create a memorable and enjoyable experience for you and your guests.

Step 5: Check the availability of private rooms If you're hosting a private event, you may want to consider a cocktail bar with a private room or hire out the entire venue. Private rooms offer more privacy and can be a great option for birthday parties, corporate events, or other special occasions.

Step 6: Read reviews Before you make a final decision, make sure to read reviews from previous customers. This will give you an idea of the quality of service and the experience you can expect.

There really is no one answer to this question: so many variables come into play when understanding the cost of exclusive hire of a cocktail bar or a private space in a cocktail bar. How many guests are you planning for? Is the venue for the day, an afternoon, or the night? The good news is that you can find a venue for pretty much any budget (okay, almost any budget). Instead of letting the venue dictate the price, our advice is to be proactive and set a budget that you feel comfortable with – this way the right venues can reach out to you through HeadBox.

There are lots of ways to book a Shoreditch cocktail bar. You can do the old-fashioned thing and pick up the phone, or email the venue directly.
