You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t like a rooftop bar, and whilst many would say the London weather doesn’t really lend itself to rooftop bars, there’s the little-known fact of anthropogenic climate catastrophe making London rooftop bars all the more viable.


The area around Liverpool Street isn’t particularly large in terms of square mileage, but it is surrounded by the City of London skyline, complete with skyscrapers and iconic landmarks. If there’s anywhere you want a rooftop bar in London, it’s somewhere with a view of that skyline.

1. A rooftop garden & greenhouse at The Culpeper

Liverpool Street, London

It’s difficult not to gush about The Culpeper pub, restaurant, and rooftop garden in Spitalfields. The three-storey Victorian building on the corner of Commercial Street and Wentworth Street is stunning. The ground floor is a quality pub, the first floor is a restaurant, the second floor is entirely dedicated to boutique hotel rooms, and the rooftop contains a garden and greenhouse.


Whilst the rooftop opening hours are weather-dependent, we think it’s one of the loveliest rooftop bars near Liverpool Street – there’s something about enjoying a cocktail containing herbs that were grown in the rooftop garden, or enjoying a pint in the sunshine amongst the sprouting herbs and vegetables. The ambiance is so chill and relaxed and reason enough to go, but the view of the City skyline acts as a late capitalist cherry on a steel and glass cake.

2. Brave your hangover with brunch with cocktails at Maene

Liverpool Street, London

Located right in the heart of Spitalfields, just a couple of minutes from Liverpool Street Station, Maene is a relaxed bar and restaurant in a 14,000 sq ft four-storey Victorian warehouse. The decor is refined industrial minimalism, but the focus is all on the high-quality menus and cocktails.


Maene’s Liverpool Street rooftop bar isn’t the highest but it’s laid-back, a sun-trap, and has stunning views of all those skyscrapers dominating the City skyline. It’s our pick for brunch with cocktails and we try to be there for as many sunny summer midday sessions as we can.

3. Sushi and cocktails at an agaveria bar & lounge: Los Mochis

Liverpool Street, London

Following on the heels of success in Notting Hill, Los Mochis is opening a second location in Broadgate Circle near Liverpool Street Station. Although the doors don’t open to the public until Spring 2024 if the Notting Hill location is anything to go by, Los Mochis will be a stellar addition to the Liverpool Street rooftop bar scene – you read it here first.


Los Mochis is known for marrying the ​​flavours of Mexico and Japan, and this new location will offer a main dining area with a sushi bar, a scenic rooftop terrace, an intimate private dining room, an agaveria bar & lounge, and an omakase experience – a meal consisting of Chef's recommendations.
