The 5 best party venues in Soho

Soho is undoubtedly the most iconic party scene of London many, many scenes. The small, square mile of crisscrossing thoroughfares completely outpunches its relative geography. Read any history of hedonism in the UK and you’re sure to come across legendary tales of excess in the subterranean bars of Dean Street, Greek Street and the inimitable Carnaby. Distilling all the years of vice into a definitive list is, if we’re honest, a bit of a fool’s game. Nonetheless, we thought you deserved a peek at some of the must-visit venues of Soho’s partying past, and a few bright sparks of the future. These are the best places to have a party in Soho, enjoy.

Karma Sanctum hotel Soho

1. A rock and roll party hotel: Karma Sanctum Soho Hotel

Soho, London

Two handsome Georgian townhouses on Warwick Street have been converted into a boutique hotel geared towards those working in the music industry. It doesn't take Lester Bangs to work out that hotels plus those in the music business is a winning combination (unless you're a TV, or a window).

One of Karma Sanctum's most party-ready spaces is its rooftop bar and lounge area. The fifth-floor spot brings together creative cocktails alongside Japanese-inspired dishes, with cigars and a hot tub elevating the whole thing to a new level. The area can be privately hired and, in the inevitable case that you drink too much, you can crash in one of their beautifully decorated rooms.

2. A New York party in Soho: Dirty Bones

Soho, London

Located on the South West Corner of Soho proper, Dirty Bones prides itself on serving up NYC-inspired comfort food and playful cocktails – think chicken & waffles, cheeseburger dumplings and beef short rib washed down with a Rum & Ting cocktail. Borrowing the aesthetics from your classic New York loft-style apartment (an emerging theme in London, we are seeing), it's a Soho party venue for those wanting indulgent food and tasteful settings.

Private hire is available, with the restaurant area holding 90 guests standing, 60 seating. With specially curated playlists providing a soundscape to sip and eat, you could do much worse than holding a party in Dirty Bone's Soho spot.

THE WINDMILL SOHO PARTY

3. One of Soho's Legendary party venues: The Windmill

Soho, London

Whilst lots of venues borrow from Soho's reputation, The Windmill can claim to have helped establish it. Opening in the heyday of Swinging London back in '68, The Windmill grew to be a central point of the burlesque scene in Soho.

Whilst the entertainment has become a little more pre-watershed in recent years, the interior still evokes exactly the kind of plush luxury you'd expect from The Windmill brand name. Essentially a classic open-plan theatre set-up, with the timeless Palais De Luxe overhead. Boasting enough room for 250 guests, don't fret if you max out the capacity; there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Hotel Cafe Royal Pompadour Ballroom London Banqueting Hall

4. A luxurious party venue in Soho: Hotel Café Royal

Situated on the intersection of Air and Glasshouse Street, Hotel Café Royal has been setting the scene of Soho's partying elite for around 150 years. The grand 5-star Hotel has seen the likes of Oscar Wilde and Winston Churchill alongside Princess Diana and David Bowie over the years, so you know you're in good company.

One of our favourite spaces in the hotel has to be their absurdly opulent Pompadour Ballroom. The 250-capacity party hall is dressed to the nines with chandeliers flickering shadows on beautiful ornate walls and light-letting windows. It's the kind of party venue that would prove perfect for a masquerade ball or a truly extravagant dinner party. Think Jane Austen, if she tired of Hertfordshire fields and moved to the town of vice.

5. A Slice of 1960's Hong Kong, in Soho: Wun's Tea Room

Soho, London

Fans of In The Mood For Love, rejoice: This is your newest favourite party venue.

Wun's Tea Room can be found on Greek Street, in the thick of Soho, and has caused a justifiable stir in the area. Aesthetically, this is leagues ahead of the competition. The neon-bathed bar area has been gloriously outfitted with velvet, ceramic, rattan, and brass furnishings, all of which coalesce towards a very distinct vibe.

Whilst the name might lead you towards expect a pot of Jasmine, in truth cocktails are the name of the game here. Take their take on the Old Fashioned: Woodford Reserve paired with Pandan Syrup and Bitters. It's worth a trip to Soho for, trust us.

Private hire for your party is available for up to 70 guests.
